There were many Yorkshire Day events across the region and David Hinde, The Yorkshire Society’s official Town Crier, was on hand to open one in Bridlington. Here’s his brief report.
Grey skies cleared to blue sky and a warm breeze by the time the summer carnival began mid-morning, and thousands came out onto the Sewerby Cliffs to celebrate Yorkshire Day at it – a rare chance to enjoy a carnival or any major event this Year.
Bridlington Gold Radio were there to assist Bridlington Lions, providing a motorised stage for the band ‘Stickle Bricks’ to play their varied repertoire from pop to rock, and a platform for The Mayor Of Bridlington’s ‘Welcome’, followed by my cry to declare the carnival officially open and to celebrate Yorkshire Day.
Punch & Judy entertained afterwards. There was a great selection of food & drink stalls and a car boot sale, plus a fantastic collection of vintage cars parked by the cliff edge.
A good time was had by all and here’s my special cry for this special day:
