The Yorkshire Society held its 34th Yorkshire Awards and Gala Dinner on 3rd March.
Yorkshire’s most prestigious annual awards were presented to those who had done Yorkshire proud in 2022 including Chris Mason (Man of the Year), Lindsey Burrow (Woman of the Year), Dr Amir Khan (Community Hero) and the cast and crew of Emmerdale in recognition of their 50 year anniversary.
There was also a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award for Harry Gration MBE, accepted by his widow Helen. Harry’s son Harrison, an accomplished singer received a standing ovation after singing Stars from Les Misérables, and there was an eye-popping performance by dancers from Leeds Caribbean Carnival, created by Dr Arthur France MBE who was given a Special award. Yorkshire business was not forgotten, John Cotton Group (Business Enterprise award) and Jet2 (International award) were honoured too.
Over £4000 was raised for charity, adding to the more than £300,000 already raised by the Yorkshire Awards over the years. Christine Talbot and Duncan Wood kept everything running smoothly so, all in all, a fantastic event worthy of the Yorkshire name it carries.
The 35th Yorkshire Awards is already being planned and certainly has a lot to live up to. Thanks to everyone who attended, helped or supported this year’s awards including those great Yorkshire businesses donating prizes for the charity raffle and auction including Yorkshire Tea (Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate), Timothy Taylors, David Lloyd (Leeds), Rudding Park, Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Leeds Rhinos, Real Yorkshire Tours, Seabrook Crisps, Regal Foods, Jet2 and ITV Yorkshire. Without all of them, it wouldn’t be the same.
