Society members Malcolm and Karen Weaving, the Proprietors of the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton, hosted a fundraising event at the hotel for Petal – childhood cancer research charity, in aid of Cancer Research UK.

There was a full house and The Yorkshire Society was invited along to add its support.

The Society has many charity members and although we’re not a charity ourselves, we are charitable by nature and always happy to help any fundraising event for good causes in Yorkshire.

A great afternoon was had by all with an excellent lunch and a presentation by TV legend, comedian Syd Little, a personal friend of Malcolm and Karen. He entertained the audience of more than 150 guests with stories of his career in showbusiness, spanning 56 years to date, much of it with his on-stage partner Eddie Large of course. Hilights included a Royal Command Performance, “This is your life” and more recently a solo career with TV appearances on Celebrity Masterchef and the Real Marigold Hotel.

Our Deputy Chairman, Geoff Walsh, who represented the Society, said “All praise to the Petal team and thank you to Malcolm, Karen and Syd for their commitment, and the guests’ for their generosity in raising over £3000 for such a worthy cause.”

Rendezvous Hotel will be the venue for the Society’s special Velentine’s themed dinner on 15th February, when the Society will invite the people and businesses of Skipton to join us for an evening to celeberate our love of Yorkshire. You can find out more about this event here
