Yorkshire’s 4th Heritage Summit – Skipton Town Hall
After the success of last year’s Yorkshire Heritage Summit at Hull Minster, our 2025 event comes to the wonderful rural market town of Skipton in North Yorkshire, though some might say Skipton in Craven.
Historically in the East Division of Staincliffe Wapentake in the West Riding of Yorkshire, Skipton is on the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to the south of the Yorkshire Dales, and has a rail station, too.
Now established as an important annual event, the Yorkshire Heritage Summit, brings together the organisations and people concerned with any and every aspect of Yorkshire’s heritage and the history behind it. It provides them with an important opportunity to engage with the public and network with each other, and gives the public an insight into the amount of work – often unpaid by volunteers and charities – done to maintain Yorkshire’s culture and character, with displays, presentations and performances.
Venue
This event is now the most significant and largest of its kind, and is growing year on year, putting the venue and host town into a historial spotlight. This year our venue is the imposing Town Hall, in Skipton.
From 2019 -21 a complete £4.7m restoration and refurbishment of the existing building took place alongside reinterpretation of Craven Museum collections and redesign of the museum. This major redevelopment was a result of funding from owners Craven District Council, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and the Historic England High Street Heritage Action Zone.
The Yorkshire heritage Summit comprises three great events in one…
1. Exhibition
See up to 40 organisations, large and small, related to the promotion and protection of every aspect of Yorkshire’s history and heritage. Many of The Yorkshire Society’s own Heritage Guardians will be there.
Talk to experts, see the variety of work being done by these, often volunteer and charity organsations, large and small.

2. Symposium Tickets £7.50pp (plus eventbrite booking fee)

3. Free Guided Walks
Skipton Civic Society have arranged a number of interesting walks around and about the town. Contact Sue Wrathmell (spwrathmell@gmail.com) who’s ready to take your booking for all the walks listed below.
