Whitby Town Council are well under way with plans for this year’s Yorkshire Day event, and they are pulling out all the stops to maintain the standard set by Ripon in 2018.
There will be numerous activities by local businesses and the public of Whitby to entertain the many thousands expected to visit Whitby on Yorkshire Day, but at the heart of the celebrations will be The Yorkshire Society’s official Civic Celebration, when Lord Mayors, Mayors, Civic Leaders and VIPs from across the county and representing every community, are invited to come-together to celebrate the County’s special day and show the world how proud we all are of Yorkshire.
This little bit of Yorkshire pomp and circumstance is a sight to see, but only members of the Society can attend and enjoy participating. And because every year is a little bit different, with the host’s keen to showcase themselves, it is a unique occassion and not to be missed.
This year’s event is in Whitby for good reason, coinciding with Captain Cook, one of Yorkshire’s most famous son’s, first arrival in New Zealand 250 years ago, and we are pleased to be able to add to the Town’s celebrations of this historic event.
The day’s proceedings are as follows:
08.15 – 09.15 Guests park in the Marina Car Park and take short walk to The Star Inn the Harbour.
08.30 – 09.45 Breakfast reception and Robing – The Star Inn the Harbour.
10.15 Shuttle buses will transport guests to St Hilda’s Church.
10.45 Yorkshire Day Service in St Hilda’s Church.
Following the service, the shuttle buses will transport the guests to Church Street for the start of the Civic Procession.
12.15 Parade departs.
12.45 Pre-lunch reception at the Dock End marquee.
13.15 Lunch.
Michelin-starred Chef, Andrew Pern and his team from The Star Inn The Harbour will be preparing a real feast for the day, inspired by ingredients from Whitby and the locality.
16.15 Depart.
