The Yorkshire Society, a not for profit organisation for people who love Yorkshire, is pleased to announce tje appointment of Melanie Brown MBE as Vice President.

Mel B, as she is also known, rose to fame in the mid 1990s as a member of the Spice Girls in which she was nicknamed Scary Spice. With over 100 million records sold worldwide, the Spice Girls are the best-selling female group of all time.

In 2024, Mel received an honorary doctorate for her charity work supporting survivors of donestic abuse, and was awarded the MBE in 2022.

She joins other famous people from Yorkshire in the honorary position. Commenting on her appointment, Mel said “I’m sooo honoured to be Vice President of the Yorkshire Society! I am a Leeds girl through and through. I lived in Los Angeles for ten years but I missed home and I’ve been back in Yorkshire since 2019 and I am so happy to be back. I have my home in the beautiful countryside which gives me absolute peace. Yorkshire is the best place on earth – it has to be, it’s my county!”

The Yorkshire Society is delighted to welcome Melanie and looks forward to working with her and to supporting and promoting all things Yorkshire.
