The weather was on our side on Sunday 28th April as 17 walkers set off from the grounds of Bolton Abbey to the iconic Simon’s Seat, an impressive gritstone outcrop overlooking the Wharfedale valley.
After leaving the grounds of the Bolton Abbey estate we entered the Valley of Desolation along Posforth Gill and then on to Barden Fell. The long gradual climb up the stoney strack to the summit was well worth the climb. The views from Simon’s Seat are quite breathtaking.
After a well-earned lunch stop on the summit we decended down a path to Howgill and eventually joined the Dales Way footpath along the River Wharfe.
Everyone enjoyed icecream from the van at Barden Bridge before continuing on through the beautiful Bolton Abbey estate into Strid Wood and back to the Pavilion car park.
Why not join us on our next walk in July? More details to follow…
