NEWS RELEASE (updated 14th June 2021)

We are pleased to announce that in addition to our official Yorkshire Day Civic Celebration in York this year, although it’s once again been badly affected by the pandemic (please see the joint announcement with City of York Council), we will be organising a new and equally important event so the general public can join members of The Yorkshire Society to celebrate Yorkshire Day in a covid safe way at The Yorkshire Festival.

The Yorkshire Festival is a new, important event in the Society’s annual calendar and will be held for the first time this year at The Piece Hall in Halifax in a strictly controlled covid safe way over two days, Saturday 31st July and Sunday 1st August, Yorkshire Day itself.

The event is an opportunity for the people of Yorkshire to come together and enjoy a celebratory mix of food, drink, products, music, entertainment, heritage, arts and culture, all from Yorkshire – a celebration of Yorkshireness itself – in an iconic Yorkshire location that never disappoints visitors.

Ticketed FREE entry to control numbers will be in place and, with ample space for social distancing, we expect to safely welcome an enthusiastic audience over the two days.  If current covid restrictions are lifted before, a large number will be able to enjoy this event, but not more than this fantastic space of over 60,000 square feet can comfortably handle. And we hope to encourage the rest of Halifax to join in too.

Every year now, on the weekend immediately before Yorkshire Day, we will bring the best of Yorkshire together at The Yorkshire Festival for a great public party to celebrate our unique Yorkshire heritage and culture. And everyone is invited.

We’ll publish more information and details as it becomes available.

31st July – 1st August 2021

Put the date in your diaries now. This is not an event you want to miss. Members of The Yorkshire Society – individual and corporate – will be getting special messages and offers about and for The Yorkshire Festival, so now would be a good time to join the Society.

If you are a Yorkshire business, entertainer, vendor, trader or cultural organisation and would like to be involved, please get in touch by writing to as soon as possible.
