Claire Tolley, the passionate founder of Cridling Kombucha, began brewing kombucha several years ago as a means to improve her own health after suffering some severe health issues including allergic reactions. “It was a scary time,” she recalls, “My body was in a lot of pain, I had no energy, I had abscesses and I had some kind of psoriasis and acne that covered much of my body”.

Claire embarked on a journey of personal research into gut health, becoming fascinated with its profound impact on the physical body and overall well-being. She firmly believes in the connection between gut health, the body and the brain, leading her to create two ranges of Premium Kombucha – a traditionally brewed and a honey based one – both rich in natural benefits promoting a healthy gut microbiome. She did with typical Yorkshire grit and determination, and the support of a strong family who have all chipped in, in their various ways, to help Claire establish a business and a brand.

Kombucha is a fermented, lightly effervescent, sweetened black tea drink. Sometimes the beverage is called kombucha tea to distinguish it from the culture of bacteria and yeast. Juice, spices, fruit or other flavourings are often added. Kombucha is thought to have originated in China, where the drink is traditional.

Cridling Kombucha takes pride in its Yorkshire roots, situated where North, East, South, and West Yorkshire meet, her microbrewery is located at Cridling Park; a tiny hamlet with a rich, almost forgotten history. Beyond being a kombucha brewer, Claire is also a beekeeper and conservationist, committed to sustainability and natural living practices.

“Cridling kombucha is more than a health drink,” Claire explains, “it’s also the perfect drink you can enjoy when out socialising. It’s all natural and naturally low in calories. You can enjoy it on its own or as a mixer. There aren’t many drink options that have real health benefits”.

As a testament to her dedication to crafting high-quality, health-enhancing beverages, Claire has combined traditional brewing methods with unique and delicious ingredients infusing her products with local flavours including the new Rhubarb with Ginger. Claire has taken her passion for gut health to establish Cridling Kombucha as a beacon of wellness and sustainability in the heart of Yorkshire.
