Her remarkable life as, among other things, a Landowner, Mine Owner, Explorer, Mountain Climber and Lesbian was documented in her fascinating dairy of over 5 million words, one sixth of it in code. Sarah Cowling will open a window into 19th C life from a unique perspective.

2. FRANK MATCHAM AND HIS YORKSHIRE GEMS
Wednesday 7th April 7.15pm – 8.15pm
Frank Matcham was one of Britain’s most famous theatre designers yet you may never have heard of him. He was described by some as the Christopher Wren of the art world. Over 100 years since his death, Matcham’s theatres and other buildings still shine as awe inspiring venues, but when he took over his father-in-law’s business he had no formal architectural qualifications and was regarded as a hack by his contemporaries. Join Michele Thompson on the talk to discover the man, the life and the work of Frank Matcham and visit some of his very special creations in Yorkshire.
