The Yorkshire Society is 40 years young this year. Started in 1980, the current Yorkshire Society is the only one to have existed in Yorkshire itself (to our knowledge).
Historically there have been many ‘Yorkshire Societies’, usually started by benefactors from Yorkshire who have moved away and wanted to provide charitable help to fellow Yorkshire ‘expats’, or a link with home – long before cheap travel and the internet allowed anyone anywhere to stay connected.
Today’s Society is all about community spirit, and never before has that been more relevant. It still has a charitable nature but in a modern world it manages to combine tradition and culture with progress and ambition for the county and its people.
The Yorkshire Society is now an inclusive organisation open to anyone and everyone – all you have to be is like all of us, in love with God’s Own County.
NOW YOU CAN JOIN US FOR FREE
To celebrate our 40th anniversary we want to make the Society even more accessible and encourage as many people as possible to get involved. So individual membership is now FREE.
As a member you can show your pride in Yorkshire and join a community of like-minded people keen to support each other. You will be the first to know what we are doing and why. You will have an opportunity to get involved if you want and help us personally, or you can simply help us to blow the Yorkshire trumpet.
The Yorkshire Society organises special events including the Yorkshire Awards and the official Yorkshire Day Civic Celebration. These are exclusive invitation-only events that members can attend. We also organise business events to which members receive priority and preferential rates. And we run Yorkshire’s only county-wide commemorative plaque programme that recognises people and businesses we can, and should, all be proud to have a connection with. We have much more and many ideas for the future already planned.
So whoever you are, wherever you are, if you love Yorkshire like we love Yorkshire, join us. Just click the FREE MEMBERSHIP button below and complete the registration form.
