What was said at the Forum on the Future Governance of Yorkshire?

After the General Election, what does the future hold for Yorkshire? That was the question posed by The Yorkshire Society, in partnership with University of Hull, at an open forum on the options for the future governance of Yorkshire at the Yorkshire Museum on Friday 31 July. The event was planned to influence and provide insight for all political parties and especially the new government following the recent General Election. The report of this event, recording what was said and ideas suggested, is now available.

Phil Bell, Chief Executive of The Yorkshire Society said: “The report summarises the key issues raised during the forum, including the need for more research on regional governance, the importance of identity and cultural heritage and the potential for Yorkshire to play a leading role in shaping the future of regional governance throughout England.

“The forum was seen as a starting point for ongoing discussions and efforts to define and influence the governance structure of Yorkshire in the years to come, and a help to unleash the fantastic potential, across all sectors, that Yorkshire undoubtedly has.”
